Summary for 2021
Minneapolis is a wonderful city with amazing natural amenities including the Mississippi River Gorge that runs right through the City and the Second Ward. We also have a great park system. In August 2015, the Minneapolis City Council passed a resolution to increase pollinator forage (including native plants) and decrease the use of pesticides on all city-owned and controlled property and to encourage property owners throughout Minneapolis to adopt pollinator-friendly practices. We have been working hard to follow up on that ever since. Prior to that, we amended our ordinances to allow native plantings and lawns that did not need to be mowed short. Last year we approved a new comprehensive plan that calls for the City to encourage native and pollinator-friendly species in landscaping, and the regulation of, and education around, the use of pesticides and chemical compounds on privately owned land.
