We have a documented roosting site in town that we are monitoring, are working with community groups to increase pollinator plants and habitat around town in support of this iconic species. Mayor Heidi Harmon and her staff are committed to supporting the Pledge and working on Monarch butterfly protection!

The Village of Glencoe is a northern Cook County community with a population of roughly 9,000. The Village is situated on Lake Michigan and is home to several monarch gardens, sanctuaries, and nurseries across the community. The Village Glencoe, IL has committed to saving the monarch butterfly and other pollinators with the signing of the Mayor's Monarch Pledge and looks forward to engaging residents in building more pollinator habitat throughout the Village.

West Chicago is a diverse, family-oriented community with a population of roughly 27,100. The City is located approximately 30 miles west of the City of Chicago, with a rich cultural mix and a proud heritage. Mayor Pineda's commitment to saving the monarch butterfly started in 2017 when he signed his first Mayor's Monarch Pledge. He looks forward to continuing efforts to educate the public on the importance of the monarch butterfly and other pollinators, and demonstrate how the community can help save them by planting native milkweed and other pollinator-friendly native nectar plants.

The Village of Lincolnshire is located in southeast Lake County, approximately 34 miles from downtown Chicago. The Village encompasses 4.58 square miles and is generally bordered on the north and northwest by Vernon Hills; on the south and southwest by Riverwoods and Buffalo Grove, and on the east by Bannockburn and Lake Forest. Lincolnshire is characterized by higher than average household earnings; highly educated residents; and a diverse population encompassing all ages, occupations, and incomes. A growing population of middle to high-income households live within a three-mile radius of the Village.

Joplin is a city located in southwest Missouri with a population just over 50,000. We have been a partner with the Mayor's Monarch Pledge for several years, and have established several butterfly habitat areas throughout our community. Joplin is very fortunate to have several volunteers and staff who are passionate in saving and preserving the Monarch Butterfly. We are very excited to continue to grow the habitats that are established but also add new pollinator habitats to our community.

North Mankato Minnesota is a community with a population of 14,000. We currently have prairies at Benson Park and Bluff Park along with 19 other community parks, which incorporate Pollinator Gardens. Mayor Dehen of North Mankato, Minnesota has committed to saving the monarch butterfly and other pollinators with the signing of the Mayors’ Monarch Pledge. It is our goal to work with Local Master Gardeners and the 4H groups to help in the education to our citizens about pollinator gardens and their purpose.

Over the past several years, Pickering has developed and implemented a number of initiatives to support the Monarch butterfly and other important pollinators such as birds, bats and bees. Through participation in the Mayors’ Monarch Pledge, Pickering will continue to help create Monarch habitat, raise community awareness about the importance of these species, and educate residents on roles they can play. Through collaboration we also endeavor to encourage other Canadian cities to do the same.

Scottsdale, Arizona is located in the beautiful Sonoran Desert and home to the McDowell Sonoran Preserve, one of the nation's largest municipally owned permanently protected land preserve. This demonstrates that our community is committed to a healthy environment, open space, and protecting natural habitats. The City of Scottsdale, in partnership with Keep Scottsdale beautiful and other interested citizens, already has butterfly gardens in several parks and senior centers, and we wish to continue our efforts to help these important pollinators.
