The Village of Elwood is a quaint vibrant community located in the heart of Will County with a population of approximately 2300 people. We are blessed with open lands where wildlife is thriving. We are located steps from the Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie. Midewin was the first national tallgrass prairie ever designated in the U.S. and the largest conservation site in the region. The Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, located in the Village of Elwood, is a 982-acre cemetery. Village President Doug Jenco and Elwood’s citizens have already joined in creating and will continue creating healthy habitats for the magnificent monarch butterflies.

Highland Park is a small city on the shores of Lake Michigan 25 miles north of Chicago. With towering lake bluffs, secluded ravines, and wooded lots, the city has always had a special relationship with nature and the character of the city is defined by large old oaks and hickories. Mayor Rotering has committed to increasing pollinator habitat by removing invasive species such as buckthorn from public land and replacing it with native perennials, shrubs, and trees.

The Woodlands Township is a master-planned community located 30 miles north of downtown Houston, Texas with a population of 120,000. The Township is home to 148 parks, 220 miles of hike and bike trails, and includes more than 28,000 acres of forested land. The Woodlands Township Board of Directors has committed to saving the monarch butterfly and other pollinators with their signing of the Mayor’s Monarch Pledge and has contributed $5,000 annually to programs, educational resources, and events that support these efforts. Over the past few years, The Woodlands Township had led many efforts to engage residents including propagating and distributing more than 14,000 native milkweed plants, registering more than 100 pollinator gardens throughout the community, and converting numerous public spaces to pollinator and wildlife habitats.

We are neighbors to the Atascosa Wildlife Refuge and very committed to nature conservation. Our city has several beautiful parks, including a bird watching nature trail. Mayor Smith has committed to the saving the monarch and other pollinators by signing the Monarch pledge.

The City of Angleton was founded in 1890 & is 41 miles south of downtown Houston, and approximately 20 minutes north of Surfside Beach. Angleton Has been the county seat of Brazoria County since 1897 and is continuing to grow in population with over 20,000 residents. Mayor Perez of Angleton, TX continues to commit to the restoration of monarch butterflies and other pollinators with signing the mayors monarch pleage and looks forward to engaging angleton citizens in building more pollinator habitats through out the city.

Lexington is a vibrant and diverse community with many groups that will play a vital role in helping us achieve our goals through the Mayors Monarch Pledge.

Middletown is a small town of 4500 people located in the center of the fertile Middletown Valley. It is home to farms and natural environments that support our community and the natural species that live within it. Our Sustainability Committee recognized by Sustainable Maryland has worked diligently to raise awareness of the monarch butterfly and the species’ need for habitat. Our town and the committee engage with citizens and community garden groups and urge the planting if native milkweeds and nectar-producing plants. We are proud of our progress and recognize that there is more to do to protect the monarch butterfly.

The Town of Townsend is located in central Delaware with a population of roughly 2,400. The Town has the distinction of being designated the first community Wildlife Habitat in the State of Delaware by the National Wildlife Federation on April 24, 2010 and attaining its 10-year certification in 2020. Townsend partnered with the Townsend Elementary School & Delaware Nature Society to plant a butterfly garden at the school in 2016 and partnered with Brownie and Club Scout Troops in 2017, 2018, and 2019 to plant and enhance a butterfly garden at Town Hall. Mayor McDonald has committed to saving the monarch butterfly and other pollinators with his signing of the 2021 Mayors' Monarch Pledge and looks forward to engaging residents in building more pollinator habitat through the Town.
