The City of Hilliard, Ohio, a suburb of Columbus, is home to more than 31,000 residents. Hilliard strives to be on the leading edge of community sustainability. We take pride in providing leadership in central Ohio when it comes to green and sustainable initiatives. This includes being committed to growing a strong community gardening program and saving the monarch butterflies and other pollinators. City Manager, Michelle Crandall, along with the City’s Environmental Sustainability Commission have committed to saving the monarch butterflies and other pollinators with the signing of the Mayors’ Monarch Pledge. We look forward to engaging residents in building more pollinator habitats throughout the City.

Manassas is an urban habitat of 45,000 people located 30 miles southwest of Washington, DC. The city is 10 square miles and has 230 acres of parkland and open space. In 2020 the City adopted a goal that Manassas would be a sustainable and resilient city that values the environment, encourages access to nature, and provides a safe, pleasant, and healthy community for residents of all ages, abilities and incomes. A strategy to achieving that goal includes, "Supporting the conservation of local and regional biodiversity by promoting the protection and enhancement of native plant communities and pollinator and wildlife habitats while managing invasive plant and animal species."

The City of Prospect Heights is a Chicago suburb of approximately 16,500 population. Last year, the City provided financial resources, along with a private donor, to offer a match amount to obtain a grant from Commonwealth Edison, for the purpose of developing a pollinator park on City property. The planning of the park and volunteer labor resources were provided by the City's Natural Resources Commission. The natural wildflower plantings in the pollinator park offer a tailored habitat for monarch butterflies and other needed pollinators.

Our Chesterfield Parks, Recreation and Arts department provides so many wonderful opportunities to be close to nature, experience the outdoors, and live happy and productive lives. We work closely with many organizations to care, grow, and educate our community on the importance of nature, green space, and providing adequate habitat for our butterflies, birds, and other wild creatures.
