Established in 1855, the Town of Whitby is situated on the north shore of Lake Ontario, 30 km east of Toronto. The Town maintains 125 parks with 950 acres of active parkland, over 1000 acres of passive open space, and approximately 75 kilometres of trails. The estimated population is 138,300 and Durham Region predicts the population of Whitby will be approximately 200,000 by 2033. The Town of Whitby’s mission to create and maintain a sustainable, healthy, and safe community/environment can be achieved, in part, through the maintenance, restoration, and enhancement of the Town’s green infrastructure. A healthy habitat for pollinators is an integral component of the municipality.

Melita is a town located in the southwestern corner of the Canadian province of Manitoba. It is surrounded by the Municipality of Two Borders and occupies a bend of the Souris River. Located along PTH 3 and 83. With a population of ~1,000 residents we are a community working together to help create new habitat for Monarchs and to help them in any way we can. Being a part of the Mayoral Monarch Pledge program is very important to us and we look forward to continue to be a part of it for the years to come!

Minnetonka is a fully developed suburban community of more than 53,000 residents located eight miles west of Minneapolis. The city’s natural surroundings — including woodlands, prairies, wetlands and other bodies of water — set it apart from similar-sized suburbs and give the community a distinct character. Minnetonka has a long history of habitat protection and restoration, and in 2017 joined the Mayors' Monarch Pledge to focus new actions that benefit monarchs, pollinators and other wildlife. Minnetonka became a Monarch Champion city in 2020.

Residents of Nolanville have adopted several measures over the past few years to bring the plight of the monarch butterfly population to the forefront of our conservation efforts. In Spring of 2016, the City of Lewisville took on The National Wildlife Federation's Mayor's Monarch Pledge in order to protect the Texas State Insect, the monarch butterfly. Its 2500-mile migration slices through the heart of the City, bringing an immense amount of joy to all of our citizens. Over the last decade however, as butterfly populations have declined, witnessing the Great Monarch Migration has become difficult, to say the least. In order to support this iconic insect's journey through North Texas, the City of Lewisville will support community education, innovate the field of parkland management, construct pollinator habitat, and bring our citizens together for events that provide a butterfly's eye view of how pollinators impact our daily lives.

Climate change is bringing changes in temperature, snowpack, water availability, and wildfire risk to Flagstaff. These changes threaten Flagstaff’s natural resources, economy, infrastructure, and quality of life. The Flagstaff community is working to proactively preserve the natural environment, working toward carbon neutrality, and enhancing the quality of life for all residents. Protecting the Monarch butterfly is an integral action in achieving our community-wide goals.

Ann Arbor is a city located along the picturesque Huron River in southeast Michigan. With a population of about 120,000, it is home to over 160 parks, totaling about 2,200 acres. Over half of those acres are comprised of natural areas which are managed and maintained by the Natural Area Preservation division of the Parks and Recreation Services Unit. The University of Michigan and Washtenaw County also own and maintain significant natural acreage within the city. Mayor Christopher Taylor has signed the Mayors' Monarch Pledge in recognition of the importance of the monarch butterfly and other pollinators to the health of our ecosystems and our citizens. We are committed to protecting and restoring our precious pollinator habitat.
