Mayor Marie Gallo accepted the Mayors' Monarch Pledge in tandem with her goal to expand the Parks and Recreation Department in the city. The Parks & Recreation Staff come from various outdoor recreation backgrounds including habitat restoration, natural resources, environmental education & safety. Mayor Gallo hopes to engage the community in abundant and diverse programs including educating the public on the importance of the native species we share our city with.

Monarch pledge The City of Lincoln is located in the heart of America and is the capital city of the state of Nebraska as well as the county seat of Lancaster County. As one of the top 10 college towns in the country, Lincoln covers 96.194 square miles with a population of close to 290,000 and is the second largest city in Nebraska. Lincoln has an impressive community wide parks and recreation system that includes 128 parks, 85 playgrounds, 134 miles of trails, 10 pools, 5 recreation centers, and 5 public golf courses. Amenities like these are vital for our community's health, safety, quality of life, and economic prosperity. Lincoln is committed the preservation of precious ecosystems and native habitats that protect the monarch butterfly and other pollinators.

Here in Chesterfield Missouri we are just out side of St.Louis Missouri. Near the confluence of the Missouri and Mississippi rivers in a lush green proactive native loving community of 49,999 residents who value their green space and wooded natural areas. Looking for ways to enhance native habitat and space for our friend the monarch butterfly to grow, expand their habitat and their numbers.

In 2018 the City of Evanston unanimously approved the City's Climate Action and Resilience Plan (CARP), which called for a number of ambitious measures including the conservation, preservation, and expansion of green space in the City.

The City of Waukesha is a community of approximately 70,000 residents. Residents are committed to protecting the Monarch Butterfly. The Mayor has supported their efforts and that of staff by endorsing the pledge for several years. The City has a Community Butterfly Garden, milkweed plantings and low mow areas to assist the Monarch. Educational sessions are also offered as part of the Arbor Day Celebration and has been incorporated into the Environmental Education Programs.

Everywhere along its migration route, the habitat that the Monarch butterfly needs to survive is disappearing. The dilemma of the Monarch has made news in recent years, and Fargo is one of many cities across the country encouraging residents to create pollinator habitat, which in combination with agriculture production and home gardens may increase plant yields. There has also been discussion amongst many departments within the City regarding mowing schedules, using native grasses and wildflowers in place of mown turf, which reduces maintenance costs, beautifies the landscape, contributes to pollinator conservation and promotes ecofriendly sustainability.

A city with a population of over 107,000, Inglewood is nestled in the South Bay region of Los Angeles County, near Sofi Stadium, the Kia Forum, and Los Angeles International Airport. The City is home to many community gardens. Mayor Butts is pleased to support monarch and pollinator conservation through participation in the Mayor's Monarch Challenge and looks forward to engaging Inglewood residents to do the same.
