The Village of Schaumburg is located about 20 miles northwest of the City of Chicago having a population of about 75,000 people. Schaumburg is is the largest center of economic development in the State of Illinois, outside the City of Chicago. The Village has committed to the preservation of the Monarch butterfly by incorporating meaningful opportunities to support the Monarch in local codes, policies and procedures. The Village enjoys a partnership with the Schaumburg Park District and many residents who support these initiatives.

The Town of North Hempstead is a suburban community located on Long Island, New York and has a population of over 200,000 residents. In 2018, Supervisor Judi Bosworth and the Town of North Hempstead first took the Mayors’ Monarch Pledge and have taken the pledge every year since. Through the pledge the Town has committed to and already taken many actions to help the monarch butterfly including increasing public awareness of the issue, encouraging residents to build gardens for monarchs in their homes, and creating monarch habitat on Town owned land. Fountain Hills is a beautiful town in the Valley of the Sun, just east of Scottsdale, Arizona. Nestled in the Sonoran Desert and surrounded by mountains, Fountain Hills has unparalleled natural beauty with desert terrain and incredible views. The town’s world famous fountain rises to a daily height of 330 feet, and during special occasions the water plume can reach its full height of 560 feet. The town hosts multiple festivals and events throughout the year. Beginning January 8, 2018 the Town of Fountain Hills, Arizona was awarded the rare distinction of being designated an International Dark Sky Community by the International Dark Sky Association (IDA). With a population of approximately 25,000, Fountain Hills has the charm of a small town and has been cited as “a welcome oasis on the outskirts of a metropolis.” A spirit of volunteerism and a high level of community involvement help make Fountain Hills an amazing place to live. The citizens of this close-knit town love the wildlife that they share their community with and the town looks forward to becoming a Community-wide Certified Wildlife Habitat.

The Township of King is one of the nine municipalities that make up the Regional Municipality of York. With a total area of 339 km2 the Township is home to some of the province’s most scenic landscapes and country sides. The Township falls within the Greenbelt and Oak Ridges Moraine and possesses a large amount of natural and ecological significance. The Township of King is committed to protecting and enhancing pollinator habitat through annual native wildflower plantings, wildflower and milkweed seed giveaways, workshops and programming as well as nature based education. In 2018, King launched a Seed Saving Program in partnership with the King Township Library. Not only has King taken the Mayors Monarch Pledge, the municipality is also Bee City Certified.

Richardson, TX is a North Texas suburb located just north of Dallas with a population of approximately 114,000 residents. Richardson is known for is acres upon acres of wildflowers, and has been committed to butterfly friendly plantings and gardens for years. Mayor Paul Voelker has committed to saving the monarchs and other pollinators with the signing of the Mayors' Monarch Pledge and looks forward to continuing these efforts.

Harker Heights is a City in Central Texas with a population of roughly 30,000. The city is home to many who are serving or have served in the United States Armed Forces due to its proximity to Fort Hood, one the largest Army installations in the world. Mayor Spencer H. Smith of Harker Heights, TX has committed to saving the monarch butterfly and other pollinators with their signing of the Mayors’ Monarch Pledge and looks forward to engaging residents in building more pollinator habitat throughout the city.

Since 2016, Branson Missouri's Mayor, citizens, residents and businesses have embraced the Mayors for Monarchs initiatives, installing over 1,000 milkweed stems and multiple gardens with signage. Our "crowd sourced" pollinator garden map allows people who have planted both milkweed and nectar plants to place a "Monarch" icon over their location. Thank you to the many local partners and leaders who contributed to our success. https://bransonmo.gov/592/Mayors-Milkweed-for-Monarchs Branson is a small tourism town located deep in the Ozarks, and hosts over 7 million visitors annually. Many visitors from flyway states recognize our efforts and support the Monarchs in their home states.
