Lake Zurich is a suburban Chicago village with many natural areas, wetlands and oak woodlands that are wonderful habitats for monarchs and other pollinators. It also has residents, a village board and staff who are willing to help save the monarch. With the help of a local conservation group, milkweed and other pollinator plants are being distributed and planted. Frequent educational classes in environmentally friendly landscaping are presented. The Village supports the restoration of local natural areas to improve pollinator habitat. This is a community which cares about our local environment and the plight of the monarch.

Cooper City is a lovely bedroom community in Broward County with approximately 35,000+ residents, founded in 1959 by Morris Cooper. Many families and young professionals live here due to the excellent school system, safe environment and quality sports programs. Cooper City takes great pride in their well maintained mature tree canopy evidenced by the City logo which is a tree with the words "Someplace Special". This extensive tree canopy provides tremendous amounts of wildlife habitat.

The city is located near the gulf coast and contains and is surrounded by multiple ecoregions, including coastal prairies and marshes, pineywoods, Columbia bottomlands, and post oak savannah. Mayor Turner has committed to working to save the monarch butterfly through numerous conservation efforts throughout the city.

The City of Chamblee began as a small rail town and was incorporated in 1908. Through multiple annexations, the City has grown to more than 7 square miles and 29,000 residents. Mayor Clarkson of Chamblee, Georgia is committed to saving the monarch butterfly and other pollinators with the signing of the Mayor’s Monarch Pledge and looks forward to engaging residents in building more pollinator habitat throughout the city.

Melbourne Village is a small community of approximately 700 residents, located in The Space Coast area of Florida. The town was founded in 1946 as an Intentional Community, with early residents building their own homes, and running small businesses to support themselves and their families. Some of these businesses included farming chinchillas and organic gardening. The Town had an honor system town store where people could sell their products to their neighbors. The Town was incorporated in 1957 to avoid absorption into the surrounding, rapidly expanding city of Melbourne. Today, Melbourne Village retains much of it's original charm and personality. Many people still raise chickens, grow their own food, and participate in a very close knit community where neighbors helping neighbors is the norm. It is a refuge for abundant wildlife, making Monarch Habitat expansion a natural fit for the town.

The City of Dalworthington Gardens, Texas is a rural oasis in the heart of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. The City covers an area of almost 2 square miles and has a population of approximately 2,200. A 43 acre park includes a lake and offers a chance for people to relax and enjoy being in nature. Mayor Bianco of Dalworthington Gardens first took the Mayor’s Monarch Pledge in 2019. 8 action items were pledged to qualify the City as part of the Leadership Circle, a status that we continue to work to maintain in order to raise awareness in the community and encourage conservation practices to support the monarch butterfly. A garden in Gardens Park was reworked in response to one of the first year’s action items. It now better supports monarch butterflies on their migration and has received designation as a Monarch Waystation.

The Village of Seville is located in Northeastern Ohio, in the south-central quadrant of Medina County. The community is approximately 40 miles from Cleveland and 20 miles from Akron. Communities within 30 Miles of the Village of Seville. Interstate 71 and Interstate 76 provide convenient access. State Route 3 is a major north-south arterial that links Seville north to the City of Medina and Cleveland, and south to Wooster and beyond. Much of the development attraction within the Village of Seville can be attributed to the area’s accessibility to many of the region’s employment centers, cultural facilities and major retail businesses. In addition, the Village has a scenic landscape that combines scenic farmland with a quaint small town. Open Space or parkland within the Village consists of five parks: Cy Hewit Park, Leohr Park; Memorial Park, Stanhope Park and Freeman Park. These five parks represent 4.32% of the Village’s land area (70.9 acres). As part of our parkland, Seville has just under 2 miles of walking and biking trails. We are actively pursuing expanding the Village trail systems. The Village of Seville, Parks and Streets Department takes conservation and pollination into consideration with all decisions. We have been active participants of the Mayor's Monarch Challenge in previous years and have reported on numerous successes, including extensive milk week seeding and planting, as well as creation and maintenance of multiple pollinator flower beds. We have created a show garden in downtown Seville with signage that identifies the pollinator plants and explains how they support monarch and pollinator conservation.
