The City of Fort Collins sits nestled against the foothills of the Rocky Mountains alongside the banks of the Cache La Poudre River, and is known to host a diversity of butterflies and pollinators. The many Natural Areas and Parks in Fort Collins provide habitat for Monarch butterflies and other pollinators. In addition, the Nature in the City program encourages habitat linkages throughout the city on non-city lands. With these programs in place, the Mayor commits to supporting the monarch butterfly and other pollinators by signing of the Mayor’s Monarch Pledge and looks forward to engaging the community in building more pollinator habitat throughout Fort Collins.

Carson City, Nevada is the Capital City of Nevada and has a population of approximately 60,000. The City is located on the eastern edge of the Carson Range, a branch of the Sierra Nevada and is located just east of Lake Tahoe. Carson City is proud to be recognized as a Bee City USA, becoming the 76th in the Nation and 1st in the state in 2018. Through this designation from the Xerces Society, Carson City has pledged to prioritize pollinator conservation initiatives throughout the City, including promoting pollinator habitat creation and public education. Additionally, Carson City is unique by having an Open Space Division which manages over 7,000 acres of undeveloped natural areas in Carson City, including 11 miles of protected Carson River corridor that host native showy and narrow leaf milkweed populations. Mayor Bagwell of Carson City, Nevada has committed to saving the monarch butterfly and other pollinators with their signing of the Mayor’s Monarch Pledge and looks forward to engaging the public and developers in building more pollinator habitat throughout the city.

Pontiac, Michigan is a city of 62,000 and is the county seat of Oakland County. We are a strong, resilient, diverse community that is rebounding after previous automotive manufacturing operations mostly left through the decades. Our community has a public art installation focused around butterflies set for installation this year, is enlisting student artists to capture what they envision with more pollinators in our city, and is working to plant pollinator gardens throughout downtown Pontiac along our Saginaw Street main commercial corridor.

Clifton Park is a town in New York’s Capital District with a population of nearly 38,000. The Town is situated along the Mohawk River and the Erie Canalway National Historic Corridor, in southern Saratoga County and has more than 4,000 acres of active farmland and more than 2,000 acres of town-owned parks and nature preserves, in this suburban community. The Town of Clifton Park is committed to saving the monarch butterfly and other pollinators with its record to date of managing multiple meadows for pollinator habitat at town nature preserves and other town properties, partnering with youth on their creating an educational pollinator-habitat public art mural at the Town’s Transfer Station with its demonstration pollinator meadow habitat, supporting pollinator-friendly community gardens at neighborhood parks, offering natural landscaping courses to the public with the Northeast Organic Farming Association and the Clifton Park-Halfmoon Library to educate about pesticide-free landscaping for homes and businesses with the Town’s GREEN Committee, and earning five-years-in-a-row designation as a “Tree City USA” through efforts of the Town’s Tree Committee. The Town of Clifton Park looks forward to collaborating with community groups, schools, and the overall public and engaging residents with creating more pollinator-friendly habitats through the community.

Bella Vista is a city in Northwest Arkansas with a population of roughly 32,000. Originally created as a retirement and vacation resort town, the city consists of rolling hills, forests, that include over 115 miles of mountain bike trail, seven lakes, and seven golf courses. Residents are very active and care deeply about preservation of nature and its pollinators. Mayor Flynn is also committed to saving the monarch butterfly and natural forest area from an administration level. The City of Bella Vista looks forward to continuing to be a part of the Mayor’s Monarch Pledge program and taking meaningful steps to building and preserving more pollinator habitat throughout the city.

Bellevue is a vibrant, growing community in eastern Nebraska with a population of approximately 65,000 residents. Located along the Missouri River just south of Omaha, Bellevue is home to a rich network of parks, natural areas, and engaged community organizations that support environmental stewardship and outdoor recreation. Since 2021, Bellevue has proudly been recognized as a Bee City USA community in partnership with Green Bellevue, reflecting a strong commitment to protecting pollinators and expanding native habitat. Through this partnership, the community actively promotes education and hands-on engagement, including growing and distributing milkweed and other native plants each summer at the Bellevue Farmers Market and local events. By participating in the Mayors’ Monarch Pledge, Bellevue is reaffirming its dedication to supporting monarch butterflies and other pollinators through habitat creation, community outreach, and sustainable practices. The city looks forward to continuing to engage residents, schools, and local organizations in building a more resilient, pollinator-friendly community for future generations.

Lafayette is a city in central Indiana with a population of roughly 75,000. The city is located along the Wabash River, adjacent to Purdue University, and is home to Columbian Park and the Columbian Park Zoo, which is the second oldest zoo in Indiana. The Zoo is home to an enclosed, walk-through butterfly exhibit as well as an exterior butterfly garden that is committed to saving monarch butterflies and other pollinators. Mayor Roswarski and the Zoo have committed to saving monarch butterflies by signing the pledge again for 2026.
