In a resolution adopted on June 26, 2021, Asheville adopted a set of commitments to restoring habitat that provides food, nesting sites, and overwinter sites for pollinators. The City of Asheville is proud of our efforts to reverse pollinator decline by dedicating public space to support thriving pollinator communities and engaging residents in building more habitat throughout the city.

Dallas, Texas is a large and fast‑growing metropolitan city with a population of about 1.33 million residents. The city maintains an extensive park system with more than 21,000 acres of parkland, including hundreds of parks, lakes, ponds, and nearly 180 miles of trails. These green spaces play an increasingly important role in supporting biodiversity, recreation, and quality of life for Dallas residents. Because Dallas sits along a major monarch butterfly migration flyway, the city has made pollinator conservation a priority. Through efforts such as the Mayor’s Monarch Pledge, revised mowing practices, native plant gardens, and reductions in pesticide use, the city is restoring and expanding habitat for monarchs and other pollinators. Dallas Park and Recreation staff work alongside volunteers, community groups, and organizations like the Master Naturalists and the Native Plant Society to build and maintain gardens, distribute native plants, and educate the public. Together, these city‑led and community‑driven initiatives help strengthen pollinator populations, increase access to nature, and enhance ecological health throughout Dallas—improving the overall well‑being of both people and wildlife.

The Friendly Village of Island Lake is a small community of roughly 8,000 residents located in the north eastern part of Illinois. It is home to a varied landscape that includes a lake, many attractive parks, a thriving community garden, and fertile farmland. We support planting native Illinois plants in our community garden and throughout our park system, and plan to expand our efforts into the future. On a personal note, Mayor McLaughlin and his family have been raising and releasing Monarchs at their Island Lake home for the last ten years.

The Village of Bolingbrook celebrates a rich tapestry of diversity, reflected in both our vibrant community and our local ecosystem. Central to our village's identity is a commitment to preserving our numerous parks, recreational facilities, and open spaces. In a dedicated effort to enhance our local biodiversity, the Village is launching an initiative to bolster the population of the Monarch butterfly—Illinois’ official State insect. Bolingbrook Golf Club will spearhead this movement, utilizing its 300-acre landscape as a primary sanctuary for Monarchs. Under the leadership of Mayor Mary Alexander-Basta, the Village is committed to expanding these vital habitats to support this endangered species. To achieve this, the Village of Bolingbrook and Bolingbrook Golf Club will implement the following strategic actions: • Operational Integration: The Public Services department will receive specialized training on the ecological importance of native habitats, allowing them to adapt maintenance practices that favor Monarch conservation. • Resource Development: The Bolingbrook Golf Club will expand its seed collection and milkweed propagation programs to ensure a sustainable food source. • Habitat Expansion: The Golf Club will increase the footprint of native flora and natural prairie landscapes across its grounds. • Public Advocacy: An official proclamation will be issued to raise awareness regarding the critical decline of the Monarch butterfly and the importance of local conservation efforts. These initiatives represent the first steps in Mayor Alexander-Basta’s long-term vision to protect and revitalize the Monarch population within our community.

It is surrounded by beautiful lush lands with almond orchards that bloom beautifully in the Spring and home to many species of insects including the monarch butterfly. Mayor Matthew Serratto has committed to saving the Monarch butterfly and other pollinators with the signing of the Mayor’s Monarch Pledge and looks forward to engaging residents in building more pollinator habits throughout the city. Which will it not only beautify the city that much more but will help keep the Monarch butterfly and other pollinators thriving which is important to the pollinators and our plants and the Earth as well.
