White Plains is a diverse city with a resident population of 60,000 and a daytime population between 150 and 200K. We are 10 square miles with large apartment towers downtown as well as forested areas preserved by the city. We have a focus on the environment and lead the region in charging stations, solar installations etc. We are committed to the use of native plants and trees throughout our city. We recently included a large pollinator garden as part of the reconstruction of our library plaza which has been a great success. At the ribbon cutting swallow tail and monarch caterpillars were already present. If you build it they will come! We are currently planning the reforestation of a former parking lot with native trees and a native meadow intended to support native species including the Monarch!

The inner ring suburb of Madison Heights Michigan is located just north of Detroit with a population of roughly 30,000. The city boasts 13 parks covering over 100 acres. As well, multiple homes provide habitats to Monarch Waystations. Mayor Grafstein has committed to saving the monarch butterfly and other pollinators with her signing of the Mayors’ Monarch Pledge and looks forward to engaging residents in building more pollinator habitat throughout the city.

The Village of Ardsley is located in Westchester County, New York and has a population of over 5,000 residents. The Village is committed to and already taken many actions to help the monarch butterfly including increasing public awareness of the issue and encouraging residents to build gardens for monarchs. The Village has launched the Ardsley Pollinator Pathway Project to help save endangered pollinators. The Village is aware of the importance of saving monarchs and other pollinators, and believes that encouraging the expansion of native plantings will not only benefit monarchs but all native species, as well as providing natural and beautiful spaces for Village residents.

South Windsor is a town in Connecticut with a population of approximately 26,000. This old agricultural town is snuggled next to the Connecticut River and is home to the South Windsor Parks & Recreation Department which oversees over 700 acres of open space which includes many parks and two successful community gardens. The Town of South Windsor has committed to saving the pollinators with signing of the Mayors’ Monarch Pledge and looks forward to engaging residents with more education and providing pollinator habitat in town.

The City of Charlotte provides services to more than 860,000 residents. The city’s focus areas are Community Safety, Housing and Neighborhood Development, Economic Development, Environment and Transportation & Planning. Charlotte is guided by the following mission: "Charlotte will lead as a global city by continuously improving, protecting, and preserving the environment, its community, and economy, while ensuring equity and resilience - for today’s and future generations." In addition, the Charlotte Future 2040 Comprehensive Plan, adopted in 2021, states: "Charlotte will protect and enhance its surface water quality, tree canopy, and natural areas with a variety of trees, plantings, green infrastructure, green building practices, and open space at different scales throughout the entire community as a component of sustainable city infrastructure that addresses the threat of climate change." Lastly, in 2018, Charlotte City Council unanimously adopted the Strategic Energy Action Plan, and since then Charlotte has been taking bold action to strive towards a low-carbon, sustainable, resilient and equitable future.

Thornton is a quickly growing city, going from 60,000 in 1990 and now, slightly under 150,000. The City of Thornton residents and municipal government have a gowning sense and understanding of the importance of the monarch butterfly, both as a keystone species for environmental health as well as symbolic social importance of the monarch butterfly to North America.

Larchmont Village is located in Westchester County, NY. The population of the Village was at 6630 as of the 2020 census. Larchmont has a total of 7 municipal parks and 1 privately-held, public park. The Village of Larchmont recently passed a native plants and trees resolution to encourage the planting of more native species on municipal grounds. By signing this pledge we look forward to engaging our local residents in creating more pollinator habitats throughout the Village.
