The Town of Normal, home of Illinois State University, is located in Central Illinois. The northern two-thirds of the state was originally covered by prairie land. And while Illinois is known as "The Prairie State," most of the state's prairies are gone as the majority were converted to agricultural fields. The monarch butterfly, the state insect, had lived on these prairies. Milkweed and other flowering plants are needed to help restore the lost prairie habitat. The Town of Normal is committed to preserving and restoring native prairie plantings that serves both as an aesthetic and recreational amenity while providing wildlife habitat, especially for the monarch butterfly.

The City of Travelers Rest is working alongside Care Givers of Mother Earth for a year long initiative to focus on Monarch Butterflies in TR. We are supporting 9 of our 2nd grade teachers and classes do participate in the Mexico Mock butterfly project. Our TR High is also growing milkweed for a community wide planting initiative and gifting each 2nd grader a milkweed plant to take home to their mother for Mother's Day this year.

There are currently hundreds of wildlife habitats already located throughout the City including many Monarch habitats.

The Town of Middletown is a small town of about 5,000 residents located in the center of the fertile Middletown Valley in western Frederick County, MD. It is home to farms and natural environments that support our community and the natural species that live within it. Our Sustainability Committee recognized by Sustainable Maryland has worked diligently to raise awareness of the monarch butterfly and the species' need for habitat. Numerous efforts have been ongoing to help save them which include: our local golf course is working to preserve areas where milkweed grows, mowing patterns have changed, pollinator gardens have been planted in a highly used park and along well-traveled roads, and public communication efforts are continuing. Join us in protecting habitat for our local monarch population!
