Residents enjoy a good balance of business, community events, great trails and outdoor recreation nestled in the midst of dense wooded land. The Village is a wonderful place to live and raise a family in a natural environment and the ecosystem is encouraged and respected. The Village has had butterfly and pollinator gardens for several years, but more recently, plans are underway to add more in the area.

The City of Pasadena with nearly 145, 000 residents is a diverse city that borders the San Gabriel Mountains National Monument and is not far from downtown Los Angeles. The unique location is both a bustling city and home to a large number of native wildlife. The collision of city life and wildlife is best known in Pasadena as the Wild Urban Interface (WUI.) In 2006 the city adopted a Green and Sustainable Community Action Plan called The Green Action Plan. The plan is popular with residents, business owners, and local non-profits who notoriously take action to help guide the City towards sustainability and environmental commitment. Mayor Victor Gordo has committed to saving the monarch butterfly and other pollinators by signing the Mayor’s Monarch Pledge. Inline with the current goals The City of Pasadena proudly continues to add native pollinator habitat through community projects supported by Mayor Gordo.

North Miami has committed to pollinator conservation with three butterfly gardens within the City of North by providing them with healthy habitat that is rich in a variety of native plants and free of toxic pesticides. Pollinators are essential to our ecosystem in assisting with plant reproduction and support of various wildlife and are responsible for almost a third of the food and drink we consume. The three butterfly gardens attract a variety of butterflies; one in particular that is very beautiful is the Azalea butterfly.

Phoenicians are committed to the vision of becoming the most sustainable desert city on the planet, and have a strong ethos of habitat conservation, wise water use, and support of native plant species. Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego signed the Mayor's Monarch Pledge to raise awareness and galvanize efforts to expand crucial habitat and food sources for monarch butterflies, and the city looks forward to working with residents and stakeholders to increase prevalence of native plants throughout the city to support pollinators.

As the First City on the Mississippi and home of the legendary Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue Ox, Bemidji is rich with natural and historical amenities. It is home to a variety of beautiful parks and community gardens. Mayor Prince of Bemidji, MN has committed to saving the monarch butterfly and other pollinators with his signing of the Mayors' Monarch Pledge and looks forward to engaging residents in building more pollinator habitats throughout the city.

Bernardsville is a small suburban community in New Jersey with 7,800 residents. Last year we created a Mayor's Butterfly Garden at one of our parks and the girl scouts have been maintaining it. We have a community garden and several rain gardens with native plants to attract pollinators. Volunteers planted 1,000 milkweed plants at our parks and schools.

The City of Denton is a vibrant and growing community with many opportunities, no matter what your interest or passion. Throughout its history, Denton has been known as a university town, home to two state universities, the University of North Texas and Texas Woman’s University. With a combined enrollment of over 50,000 students, the universities bring in a variety of cultural, sports, and entertainment amenities to the Denton community. Since becoming a member of Monarch City USA in 2018, the City of Denton has shown its commitment to protecting these important pollinators in a number of ways. The City has developed and maintained various pollinator gardens, partnered with local organizations to host gardening workshops, and developed outreach events such as the Monarch Madness which takes place in the Fall.

The Village of Waunakee, located only a few miles north of Wisconsin’s capital city, is home to a population of just over 14,000. Village President Chris Zellner and the Village Board renew their pledge to monarch conservation through the Mayor’s Monarch Pledge. Waunakee maintains several restored prairies sites within the Village and neighbors several county and state parks, including a 550-acre prairie, each containing abundant milkweed and other nectar sources that support monarch populations. By signing the pledge, Waunakee aims to educate, engage and inspire its residents and visitors to take action to enhance monarch populations.
