This city of approximately 25.000 people enjoys the over 5 miles of lakefront with several parks offering the public access to the lake and wonderful views of sunsets and recreational activities on the water. The city is aggressively seeking additional lakefront property for public use. Several butterfly gardens have already been established within the city thanks to a cooperative effort by the local garden club and the city administration. Mayor Zilka of Avon Lake, Ohio has committed to saving the monarch butterfly and other pollinators with their signing of the Mayors’ Monarch Pledge and looks forward to engaging residents in building more pollinator habitat throughout the city.

Iowa City is committed to creating an environment that will allow monarchs to thrive and rehabilitate during the summer months, and over the last few years has taken steps to help support the monarch butterfly. We hold a Monarch Festival every year, in varying formats, and have seen attendance grow each year! We do crafts, share videos, and engage participants in educational initiatives. Albuquerque is the largest city in New Mexico. Its varied landscape, from the banks of the Rio Grande to Chihuahuan desert mesas and the foothills of the Sandia Mountains, supports diverse wildlife communities. Our city is home to many endemic and migratory species, including a diversity of butterflies and other pollinators. Mayor Keller is committed to advancing Albuquerque as a leader in resilient, equitable and long-term environmental solutions, and he pledges to raise awareness and community support for the conservation of monarchs and other pollinators. A hive mind of leaders from the ABQ BioPark, Albuquerque’s Open Space division and other community stakeholders will build upon existing education and engagement programs to advocate for pollinator protection.

Moon Township is a suburb of Pittsburgh in Western Pennsylvania. The Township is home to a population of approximately 25,000 people. Moon Township has a long standing tradition of investment in public parks and open space. The township has three landmark parks that feature over 600 acres of open space and over 15 miles of hiking trails. In 2019 the Township began converting open areas of both Robin Hill Park and Moon Park into no-mow wildflower meadows. These meadows have been planted with a special blend of native wildflowers and grasses specifically for pollinators. At the end of 2021 we will have over 2 acres planted. In addition, the theme of our 2021 Earth Day event on Sunday, April 25th is "Save the Monarchs." The event will feature pollinator specific activities and information.
