Eureka Springs is a city of less than 2,500 people in the Arkansas Ozarks. We have over 1600 acres of park land and numerous springs and gardens. Through our Natural Resources Preservation Plan and the contributions of many local and regional organizations, we seek to increase and preserve native plant species that support the monarch and many other essential pollinators.

Lanark County Warden Peter McLaren committed to preserving habitat for the Monarch butterfly and other pollinators in 2023 by signing the Mayors' Monarch Pledge. Lanark County has taken the Mayors' Monarch Pledge since 2019 and continues to promote and restore pollinator habitat on rights-of-ways, county land, and within the community.

The Town of Bourne is located on Cape Cod, Massachusetts with a population of just more than 20,000 residents. The Town contains more than 50-miles of shoreline, hosts the Cape Cod Canal and both of the bridges that links the Cape to the mainland. The Town has committed to saving the monarch butterfly and other pollinators with their signing of the Mayor’s Monarch Pledge and looks forward to engaging residents and visitors in building pollinator pathways throughout the Town and larger region.

The Village of Waunakee is located in Dane County, Wisconsin. Waunakee is part of the Madison Metropolitan Area and has a population of nearly 16,000 people. There are many acres of natural grasslands and is home to the 13-acre Bolz Conservancy/Prairie and Ripp Park Prairie. In recent years the Village has made many efforts to restore and add native plants and habitat to our prairies. The Village of Waunakee is dedicated to continuing these efforts to help the survival of monarch butterflies and other pollinators.

West Orange is an energetic, culturally diverse, innovative community that is welcoming, appreciative of its businesses and its 49,000 residents. West Orange is home to the Thomas Edison National Historical Park situated on our Main Street. While we are proud of our history, our future is looking even more impressive. As the newly elected Mayor, I am proud of our Township employees and the dozens of community volunteers who serve on our many local boards and commissions. Partnerships and collaborations help engage our residents in health & wellness programs and environmentally friendly preservation and conservation projects, such as the annual Earth Hour Launch and a successful town-wide milkweed campaign to repopulate the Monarch.

The City of Vaughan is located in the Regional Municipality of York, just north of Toronto. In 2018 City Council adopted a resolution committing to the Mayors’ Monarch Pledge and the City has worked diligently to fulfil the actions annually since. Mayor Del Duca is excited to be taking the pledge in 2023 and for the City of Vaughan to be launching new actions around citizen science, and maintenance and mowing programs.

We preseve many spots for migrating birds, and Pearland is a great place for bird-watchers! We also have a great park system with extensive trails for our residents to enjoy.

Thornton, Colorado, is a City of approximately 140,000 residents in the north Denver metro area, running south to north paralleling the beautiful Colorado Front Range. Thornton Mayor Jan Kulmann is committed to saving the monarch butterfly and other pollinators with the signing of the Mayors’ Monarch Pledge. She looks forward to continuing her engagement with residents in developing additional pollinator habitat throughout the City. To improve Monarch life cycle success, Mayor Kulmann has encouraged intentional maintenance practices designed for the restoration of pollinator habitat. These practices include reduction of pesticide use near milkweed in targeted locations and the innovative Naturally Thornton program, converting turfgrass into sustainable and native grasslands. In addition, Mayor Kulmann actively supports the citizen driven Monarch Fly Way initiative, which links City appropriate breeding habitat into a single unified habitat corridor, characterized by appropriate maintenance and public education.
