The City of Rochester is working to create a more sustainable and environmentally friendly future for our community. We have committed to the Mayor's Monarch Pledge, a program that seeks to increase pollinator-friendly habitats in cities nationwide. We are taking steps to increase the number of pollinator-friendly plants and trees in our city parks, as well as providing educational opportunities for our citizens to learn about the importance of protecting pollinators. We are also working with our local schools to encourage the planting of pollinator-friendly plants in their gardens. Additionally, we are actively working to reduce the use of harmful pesticides, which are known to be detrimental to the Monarch Butterfly population. Finally, we are actively partnering with local organizations and businesses to restore and protect important Monarch Butterfly habitats in our city.

Plains is a rural, agricultural community located in South Georgia. The Rosalynn Carter Butterfly Trail began in 2013 as an effort to establish native habitat. The trail which began in Plains encourages habitat for pollinators with an emphasis on the Monarch Butterfly. We have public as well as private gardens in our community that include nectar and host plants for Monarch butterflies. The Mayor and City of Plains support the establishment of habitat for Monarchs and encourage residents to incorporate native plants for butterflies as well as the beautification of our community.

Biddeford, Maine is a city of approximately 22,000 people. It is located on the Saco River, as well as the Atlantic Ocean. Possessing a robust downtown, the city has undergone a renaissance, with many new shops, restaurants, and breweries. The city is home to the University of New England and Southern Maine Health Care, and it is recognized as the youngest city in Maine. The Mayor and the City Council have signed onto the Monarch Pledge in recent years, and it has done so in a partnership with a hugely successful community garden program. City departments are aware of the need to protect pollinators, and they have adapted to changes in the way their typical activities and programs are done.

The City of Palos Heights is committing to the Mayors' Monarch Pledge for its 5th year. We have conducted a variety of actions over the years as part of our commitment including planting pollinator gardens, restoring landscapes, conducting educational programs, events and outreach. We are excited to continue this effort in 2023 to help the beleaguered Monarch butterfly with a variety of new restoration efforts and educational programs.

Flagstaff is a city in Northern Arizona with a population of around 70,000. Flagstaff sits at 7,000 ft. in elevation and is known for proximity to an array of unique landscapes including Grand Canyon National Park. Mayor Daggett of Flagstaff, AZ has committed to a fourth year of preserving the monarch butterfly and other pollinators through the Mayor's Monarch Pledge. This past year Flagstaff was able to propagate and implement hundreds of pollinator friendly plants in local parks and other significant City properties. Flagstaff looks forward to continuing to support increased education and habitat for pollinators in 2023.

The Borough of Madison is located in Morris County and has a population of just under 17,000. Madison is lucky to have many dedicated volunteers. Our Environmental Commission, Sustainable Madison Advisory Committee, and Community Garden Advisory Committee work collectively to protect the monarch and pollinators. I'm happy to sign the Monarch Pledge for the second consecutive year.

Chesterfield, Missouri is a city in the St. Louis area. Our population is approximately 50,000. The city is located in west St. Louis County, with rolling, wooded hills and the Chesterfield valley lying next to the Missouri River. We value our parks, open space, and community gardens. Mayor Nation of Chesterfield, Missouri has committed to saving the monarch butterfly and other pollinators with his signing of the Mayors' Monarch Pledge. He looks forward to engaging residents, through the efforts of the Chesterfield Citizens' Environmental Advisory Committee, in building more pollinator habitat in our city.
