Established in 1833, and incorporated as a City in 1933, the City of Grandville is located along the Grand River in Kent County, Michigan, southwest of Grand Rapids, and bisected by the beautiful Buck Creek tributary of the Grand. The Mayors' Monarch Pledge is a perfect extension of the Growing a Greener Grandville effort the Environmental Sustainability Committee began in November 2023 to certify the city as a Community Wildlife Habitat. The Pledge will help us focus the city's 16,000 residents on specific projects and actions they can take to create and conserve habitat for the Monarch Butterfly and the many other amazing pollinators and creatures that need our thoughtful stewardship for their very survival.

Milwaukie is a suburb of Portland with a population of approximately 22,000 residents. Milwaukie Bay, in the Willamette River, is the point at which both Johnson Creek and Kellogg Creek empty into the Willamette River. Milwaukie residents have a deep tie to the natural areas in our community, and the City Council recently selected Enhancing Parks and Greenspaces as one of our Council Goals for 2025-2027. The City has joined with local advocates, including the Rotary Club, the Historic Milwaukie Neighborhood Association, and the Milwaukie Parks Foundation, in attaining Bee City, U.S.A. status and launching the Milwaukie Pollinator Pathway. Mayor Lisa Batey is excited to add this Monarch Pledge to the work the community is doing to support pollinators.

Clearwater is dedicated to protecting native ecosystems, including pollinator habitats, through sustainable landscaping, community education and environmental initiatives. The city has taken steps to reduce pesticide use, promote native plantings and engage residents in conservation efforts. By joining the Mayor’s Monarch Pledge, Clearwater reaffirms its commitment to supporting monarchs and other pollinators, recognizing their essential role in biodiversity, food production and ecological health. The city looks forward to expanding pollinator-friendly initiatives and enhancing habitat conservation efforts.

The City offers numerous parks and a community garden for public enjoyment. As part of this commitment, Milton has established prairie habitats to support native plant species and pollinators. Crossridge Park features a 4-acre prairie where an annual prairie seed collection event is held to promote community involvement and sustainability. Additionally, Bendlin Prairie at Tower Hill Park further expands habitat opportunities for pollinators. Mayor Welch has demonstrated the City’s dedication to protecting monarch butterflies and other vital pollinators by signing the Mayors' Monarch Pledge. This pledge reinforces Milton’s commitment to conservation efforts that support healthy ecosystems and protect these essential species for future generations.
