Reston is a planned community located in Fairfax County, Virginia with approximately 65,000 residents.. The community is located 20 miles west of Washington, DC and is renowned for its preservation of natural areas and commitment to environmental stewardship. Reston has been certified by NWF as a Community Wildlife Habitat. It is also a Tree City USA as designated by the National Arbor Day Foundation and a designated Biophilic City. Reston recognizes the plight of the Monarch species and endeavors to conserve habitat on Reston Association property, which is accessible to residents and visitors. Reston Association staff educate homeowners about monarch conservation efforts and provide resources for people to create butterfly habitats on their own properties and in their neighborhoods.

The City of College Park, Maryland is located between Washington D.C. and Baltimore, MD. with a population of about 30,000. It is home to the University of Maryland, College Park campus. College Park has received Bee City USA affiliate status, and has a dedicated committee focused on the conservation & protection of pollinators. The Bee City committee works to educate the public about the plight of pollinators and increase awareness of their ecological importance especially in urban areas. The committee is undertaking initiatives to engage residents in a No Mow Month to help early season pollinators as well as renovating existing plantings to incorporate more pollinator friendly plants. Committee members are developing partnerships with other nearby jurisdictions to implement pollinator corridors in the metropolitan area.

Rolla, MO is located in south central Missouri - home to MO University of Science and Technology and surrounded by the Mark Twain National Forest and the Ozarks. Mayor Magdits remains committed to promoting healthy habitat for monarch butterflies, bees and other pollinators including the signing of the Mayor's Monarch Pledge. Working in partnership with the City Parks Department and City Public Works Department as well as Master Gardeners and the local Audubon Society we look forward to promoting better habitat throughout the Rolla area.

Seymour is the "Small Town" that singer/songwriter John Mellencamp wrote about in the lyrics to his hit song "Small Town." Located in south central Indiana, the city has a growing population of around 21,000. We have several public parks, one of which is home to our new pollinator garden started in 2021. We also have several downtown green spaces for the public to gather. Last year was the first year for our Monarch Pledge and we hope to do even more this year to strengthen our commitment to monarch and pollinator conservation.

The City of Fort Collins sits nestled against the foothills of the Rocky Mountains alongside the banks of the Cache La Poudre River, and is known to host a diversity of butterflies and pollinators. The many Natural Areas and Parks in Fort Collins provide habitat for Monarch butterflies and other pollinators. In addition, the Nature in the City program encourages habitat linkages throughout the city on non-city lands. With these programs in place, the Mayor commits to saving the monarch butterfly and other pollinators by signing of the Mayor’s Monarch Pledge and looks forward to engaging the community in building more pollinator habitat throughout Fort Collins.

Columbia Heights is a first-ring suburb of Minneapolis, MN, with a population of 20,000. The city is nestled between the large metropolis of Minneapolis and the sprawling suburbs. There are 15 parks in this 3-square mile city with many native pollinator gardens and room for more. Many organizations are improving conditions and habitat for Monarchs and pollinators; private and public schools, non-profits, faith communities, local government, businesses, etc. Mayor Márquez Simula is committed to connecting, inspiring, and engaging the community to continue to grow and improve spaces for the Monarch butterfly throughout Columbia Heights.

Town of Townsend

The Town of Townsend is located in central Delaware with a population of roughly 2,400. The Town has the distinction of having been designated the first Community Wildlife Habitat in the State of Delaware by the National Wildlife Federation on April 24, 2010. Since then it has recertified every year, attaining its 11-year certification in 2021. The Town partnered with the Townsend Elementary School and Delaware Nature Society to plant a butterfly garden at the school in 2016 and partnered with Brownie and Cub Scout Troops in 2017, 2018 and 2019 to plant and enhance a butterfly garden at Town Hall. Mayor Miller has committed to saving the monarch butterfly and other pollinators with his signing of the 2022 Mayors' Monarch Pledge and looks forward to engaging residents in building more pollinator habitat throughout the Town.
