Summary for 2024

Cuero, Texas is a community of approximately 8000; located in South Central Texas, and proud of its heritage, its history, and it hospitality. Once the community was informed of the decline of the Monarch population, citizens began planting pollinator plants in private places. Students at schools studied the monarch through Cuero and prepared posters sharing facts about butterflies, monarch's in particular. Students also built a native gardens at schools to help migration. As Mayor of Cuero, I encourage citizens to plant natives and pollinator plants in their gardens. I, as Mayor, have signed the Monarch Pledge for the past several years.

North East Borough is located in Northwest Pennsylvania on Lake Erie. North East is a lovely community with a bustling, small town vibe, with many community green spaces, flowers and gardens. With a history and economy shaped by agriculture, North East is committed to working towards creating habitats for Monarch Butterflies and other pollinators. Community group North East In Bloom has teamed up with Mayor Bobbi Jo Morey to work towards the goals spelled out in the Mayors Monarch Pledge Program. North East, PA is proud to join with other communities in this important endeavor.

Mayor Christy Clark has committed to saving the Monarch Butterfly and other pollinators with the signing of the Mayors’ Monarch Pledge. She looks forward to engaging the community to establish pollinator habitats throughout the town.

Despite its reputation as a sprawling metropolis, the City of Los Angeles is located within one of 36 globally recognized biodiversity hotspots. Los Angeles is a biodiversity jewel, teeming with rare and iconic species, including the monarch butterfly. By signing the Mayor’s Monarch Pledge, Mayor Bass has committed to creating habitat for the monarch butterfly and other pollinator species throughout the City. The City of Los Angeles is excited to advance the initiatives outlined in this pledge by planting native milkweed and other pollinator-friendly nectar plants in medians, to train landscape staff to use pollinator-friendly practices, and to initiate community science efforts that help monitor monarch health.

Raise awareness about the decline of the monarch butterfly and the species’ need for habitat. (Post to Website and FB) Engage with Riley Township, and other relevant staff to identify opportunities to revise and maintain mowing programs and milkweed / native nectar plant planting programs. (Train mowers/employees when/how to mow) Engage with Homeowners Associations (HOAs), Community Associations or neighborhood organizations to identify opportunities to plant monarch gardens and revise maintenance and mowing programs. Plant or maintain a monarch and pollinator-friendly demonstration garden at Riley Town Hall or Riley School. Convert vacant lots to monarch habitat. Display educational signage at monarch gardens and pollinator habitat (Funding could come from grants or donated $$ within the community).
