The City of Dana Point is dedicated to reviving the Monarch Butterfly populationthrough a community-driven initiative focused on creating and strengthening pollinator habitats. Recognizing the vital role Monarchs play in our ecosystem, the City has embarked on efforts to restore their wintering habitats and establish new spaces for them to thrive. With the help of local residents and interested visitors, Dana Point has been transforming public spaces into butterfly-friendly environments by planting California native plants that provide essential food and shelter for Monarchs during their migration. Through volunteer events and educational outreach, Dana Point residents are actively involved in fostering a healthier, more sustainable environment for Monarchs and other pollinators. This collaborative effort highlights the power of community action in protecting local wildlife and preserving the natural beauty of Dana Point.

With an estimated population of 2.7 million residents, Miami-Dade County is the most populous county east of Chicago and the seventh largest in the nation by population. Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade counties comprise the Miami - Fort Lauderdale - Pompano Beach, Florida Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA), the nation's seventh largest MSA and fourth largest urbanized area, with a total population of nearly 6.2 million. Approximately 424 square miles(excluding bay and coastal waters) of the County are within the urbanized area, while the total county area currently covers a total of 2,431 square miles, bound by Biscayne Bay and the Atlantic Ocean to the east, Everglades National Park to the west, the Florida Keys to the south and Broward County to the north. Miami-Dade County has the unique distinction of being the only metropolitan area in the United States that borders two national parks: Biscayne National Park and Everglades National Park. Collectively we champion Pollinator-friendly parks, preserves, and other areas, which include activities such as creating flower-rich habitats, providing places for nesting and egg laying, reducing the use of pesticides in parks and greenspaces; and then engaging park patrons and community members in this important conservation work.

As we are on the Monarch Butterfly's flyway, the Village is interested in creating awareness amongst our population and providing an environment that will aid them in their migratory journey. We will be Incorporating milk weed and other pollinator plants in Village parks.

Our residents and area communities are passionate about nature and the well-being of the Monarch Butterfly. We have provided habitat and pollinators that will help the Monarch Butterfly thrive in our area now, and for years to come!

Grosse Pointe Park is located on the southwestern shore of Lake St. Clair, bordering Detroit, with a population of 11,027. We have committed to the Mayor's Monarch Pledge, earning Leadership Circle status in 2016 under Mayor Robert Denner, and in 2023 and 2024 under our current Mayor Michele Hodges. Grosse Pointe Park will continue these efforts toward being a more pollinator-friendly city by working in partnership with its newly formed sustainability committee, under the GPP Beautification Commission. Our goal is to build a healthy, sustainable and wildlife friendly community.

Hot Springs is the most popular tourist destination in the state of Arkansas with nearly 7 million annual visitors. It is located just southwest of the state capital of Arkansas with a population of more than 38,000 residents. As a part of the Natural State, the city of Hot Springs is nestled alongside Hot Springs National Park, also known as the first U.S. National Reservation, as well as the Ouachita National Forest and two state parks. It is surrounded by three man-made lakes, one of which is the largest lake in the state and also consistently ranked one of the cleanest lakes in the nation. In addition to the state/federal attractions, the City of Hot Springs boasts of having 22 parks within and surrounding the city limits, along with the Hot Springs Creek Greenway Trail and the future home of the Stokes Creek Greenway Trail. Between all these entities, Hot Springs has more than 100 miles of hiking/walking trails. In an effort to bring awareness to pollinators, the City of Hot Springs partners with community groups such as the Master Gardeners and Arkansas Master Naturalists, Diamond Lakes Division (DLAMN) to host a variety of presentations and educational events at pollinator areas on city-owned parks and trails. By signing the Mayor’s Monarch Pledge, Hot Springs Mayor Pat McCabe has committed to continue to save the monarch butterfly and other pollinators and looks forward to engaging residents in pollinator education and building more pollinator habitats throughout the city.

Sheltered by the San Bernadino Mountains to the north, the little San Bernardino Mountains to the east, the Santa Rosa Mountains to the south, and the San Jacinto Mountains to the west, Palm Springs is home to many beautiful and important nature parks, recreational parks, trails, gardens, and other natural areas. Mayor Ron deHarte of Palm Springs, California has committed to saving the monarch butterfly and other pollinators by signing the Mayors’ Monarch Pledge and looks forward to continuing the encouragement and promotion of establishing and protecting pollinator habitat throughout the City of Palm Springs.
