The Town of Manchester, Connecticut is a diverse and engaged community with a strong commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship. Through achievements such as Sustainable CT Gold certification, expanded open space protection, and pollinator-focused education and gardens, Manchester has demonstrated leadership in conservation. Building on this foundation, the Town proudly commits to the Mayors’ Monarch Pledge, advancing efforts to expand pollinator habitat, increase native plantings, and engage the community in protecting monarch butterflies and other vital pollinators for a more resilient and sustainable future.

Action Items Committed for 2026

Communications and Convening ▸

Issue a proclamation to raise awareness about the decline of the monarch butterfly and the species’ need for habitat. This proclamation must incorporate a focus on monarch conservation.

Program and Demonstration Gardens ▸

Add or maintain native milkweed and nectar-producing plants in gardens in the community.

Systems Change ▸

Increase the percentage of native plants, shrubs and trees that must be used in city landscaping ordinances and encourage use of milkweed, where appropriate.
