Pledge Summary

The Village of Pulaski is a small community in Upstate New York, 4 miles from the Southeastern shores of Lake Ontario, 6 miles from Selkirk State Park and within 45 minutes of 4 other State Parks along the Lake Ontario Shores. The Salmon River, a world class fishing destination, runs through the heart of the community. Pulaski has a very active Garden Club. The Village will be working with this organization to hold a plant sale,, improve a pollinator garden at the village offices and exchange seeds and plants to provide habitat for monarch butterflies.

Communications and Convening

  • Engage with community garden groups and urge them to plant native milkweeds and nectar-producing plants.
  • Engage with gardening leaders and partners (e.g., Master Naturalists, Master Gardeners, Nature Centers, Native Plant Society Chapters , other long-standing and influential community leaders) to support monarch butterfly conservation.

Program and Demonstration Gardens

  • Host or support a native seed or plant sale, giveaway or swap.
  • Facilitate or support a milkweed seed collection and propagation effort.
  • Plant or maintain a monarch and pollinator-friendly demonstration garden at City Hall or another prominent or culturally significant community location.
