Village of Bolingbrook

Bolingbrook, IL

Mary Alexander-Basta

Mayor

Pledge Summary

The Village of Bolingbrook celebrates a rich tapestry of diversity, reflected in both our vibrant community and our local ecosystem. Central to our village's identity is a commitment to preserving our numerous parks, recreational facilities, and open spaces. In a dedicated effort to enhance our local biodiversity, the Village is launching an initiative to bolster the population of the Monarch butterfly—Illinois’ official State insect. Bolingbrook Golf Club will spearhead this movement, utilizing its 300-acre landscape as a primary sanctuary for Monarchs. Under the leadership of Mayor Mary Alexander-Basta, the Village is committed to expanding these vital habitats to support this endangered species. To achieve this, the Village of Bolingbrook and Bolingbrook Golf Club will implement the following strategic actions: • Operational Integration: The Public Services department will receive specialized training on the ecological importance of native habitats, allowing them to adapt maintenance practices that favor Monarch conservation. • Resource Development: The Bolingbrook Golf Club will expand its seed collection and milkweed propagation programs to ensure a sustainable food source. • Habitat Expansion: The Golf Club will increase the footprint of native flora and natural prairie landscapes across its grounds. • Public Advocacy: An official proclamation will be issued to raise awareness regarding the critical decline of the Monarch butterfly and the importance of local conservation efforts. These initiatives represent the first steps in Mayor Alexander-Basta’s long-term vision to protect and revitalize the Monarch population within our community.
