City of Las Vegas

Las Vegas, NV

Shelley Berkley

Mayor

Pledge Summary

The Mayor of the City of Las Vegas met with the youth leadership team and adult leaders at K.O. Knudson Middle School at a local park adjacent to the school and operated and managed by the City of Las Vegas. The park, Justice Myron E. Leavitt & Jaycee Community Park, has a dedicated monarch butterfly garden with a walkway and informational signs explaining the lifecycle, habits, and importance of pollinators. The Mayor signed the pledge, committed to ensure the expansion of planning of milkweed in our City of Las Vegas parks, and the students presented the Mayor with a milkweed plant that she has on her garden patio at City Hall. The Mayor also has an elementary school named after her and she supported the creation of a butterfly garden onsite there as well. The local media did a television report on the event as well. The youth will be visiting City Hall this spring to tour City Hall and come to the Mayor's office to see how well their gifted milkweed is growing.
