Pledge Summary

The City of Mission is a first ring suburb in the Kansas City metro located in northeast Johnson County. Mission has a longstanding commitment to our parks and greenspaces and promotes sustainability wherever possible. Specific examples of these actions include maintaining a native plant garden at City Hall and replacing all landscaping along our downtown business corridor with native plantings. Mayor Flora is excited to continue these efforts and more by signing the Mayors' Monarch Pledge and doing what she can to help save the monarch butterfly.

Action Items Committed for 2025

Communications and Convening ▸

Issue a proclamation to raise awareness about the decline of the monarch butterfly and the species’ need for habitat. This proclamation must incorporate a focus on monarch conservation.

Program and Demonstration Gardens ▸

Launch, expand, or continue an invasive species removal program that will support the re-establishment of native habitat for monarch butterflies and other pollinators.

Systems Change ▸

Launch, expand, or continue an effort to change municipal planting ordinances and practices to include more native milkweed and native nectar producing plants at city properties.
