Pledge Summary

The City of Milton, located in southern Wisconsin with a population of approximately 5,687, is dedicated to preserving and enhancing natural habitats for pollinators. The City offers numerous parks and a community garden for public enjoyment. As part of this commitment, Milton has established prairie habitats to support native plant species and pollinators. Crossridge Park features a 4-acre prairie where an annual prairie seed collection event is held to promote community involvement and sustainability. Additionally, Bendlin Prairie at Tower Hill Park further expands habitat opportunities for pollinators. Mayor Welch has demonstrated the City’s dedication to protecting monarch butterflies and other vital pollinators by signing the Mayors' Monarch Pledge. This pledge reinforces Milton’s commitment to conservation efforts that support healthy ecosystems and protect these essential species for future generations.

Communications and Convening

  • Issue a proclamation to raise awareness about the decline of the monarch butterfly and the species’ need for habitat. This proclamation must incorporate a focus on monarch conservation.

Program and Demonstration Gardens

  • Facilitate or support a milkweed seed collection and propagation effort.
  • Plant or maintain a monarch and pollinator-friendly demonstration garden at City Hall or another prominent or culturally significant community location.
