Pledge Summary

Mansfield is a city located in north central Ohio with a population of approximately 48,000. We are located between Cleveland and Columbus and we are home to the world renowed botanical gardens of Kingwood Center Gardens and many community gardens. Mansfield has committed to saving the monarch butterfly and other pollinators and is looking forward to working with our residents in building more pollinator habitat throughout Mansfield.

Versa Basketball court at Liberty Park

A NEW state-of-the-art VersaCourt outdoor basketball surface was installed with financial assistance from Coca-Cola CONSOLIDATED and BODYARMOR and numerous community groups and volunteers.

Sterkel Community Park for All

The Sterkel Community Park for All  is one of Ohio’s premier community parks that residents of all ages and levels of abilities can visit and enjoy. The park features large playground areas for different age groups and abilities,

North Lake Park Pavilion & Playground

The park is located at 625 Hope Road in Mansfield, Ohio, and covers about 20 acres. North Lake Park offers many amenities to hold various events. Whether you are looking to go biking on the B&O Bike Trail’s northern-most point in Mansfield.

Carousel Disrict Downtown Mansfield

This carousel is in its own pavilion in the middle of downtown Mansfield Ohio. A very unlikely spot for it in the middle of an urban area.

Communications and Convening

  • Issue a proclamation to raise awareness about the decline of the monarch butterfly and the species’ need for habitat. This proclamation must incorporate a focus on monarch conservation.
  • Engage with community garden groups and urge them to plant native milkweeds and nectar-producing plants.

Program and Demonstration Gardens

  • Plant milkweed and pollinator-friendly native nectar plants along roadsides, medians, or public rights-of-way.

Systems Change

  • Launch, expand, or continue an effort to change municipal planting ordinances and practices to include more native milkweed and native nectar producing plants at city properties.
