Pledge Summary

The City of Angleton was founded in 1890 & is 41 miles south of downtown Houston, and approximately 20 minutes north of Surfside Beach. Angleton Has been the county seat of Brazoria County since 1897 and is continuing to grow in population with over 20,000 residents. Mayor Perez of Angleton, TX continues to commit to the restoration of monarch butterflies and other pollinators with signing the mayors monarch pleage and looks forward to engaging angleton citizens in building more pollinator habitats through out the city.

Action Items Committed for 2021

Communications and Convening

  • Launch or maintain a public communication effort to encourage residents to plant monarch gardens at their homes or in their neighborhoods. (If you have community members who speak a language other than English, we encourage you to also communicate in that language; Champion Pledges must communicate in that language.)
  • Engage with community garden groups and urge them to plant native milkweeds and nectar-producing plants.
  • Issue a proclamation to raise awareness about the decline of the monarch butterfly and the species’ need for habitat. This proclamation must incorporate a focus on monarch conservation.

Program and Demonstration Gardens

  • Host or support a native seed or plant sale, giveaway or swap.
  • Plant or maintain a monarch and pollinator-friendly demonstration garden at City Hall or another prominent or culturally significant community location.
