Village of Golf Manor

Cincinnati, OH

Stefan Densmore

Mayor

Pledge Summary

The Village of Golf Manor is a first tier suburb outside of Cincinnati, Ohio. The village takes its name from the surrounding golf course, our neighbor, the Losantiville Country Club. Predominantly a bedroom community, there is a rich diversity of housing options in the village, including single family homes, duplexes and apartments. Many of the homes were built in the 1940s, though several date back to the 1800s-- and new development is occurring throughout the community. The village provides a wide range of housing options, in size, style, and price, and most of our single family homes are affordable to first-time home buyers. There is a growing interest in revitalizing our parks and public spaces, the creation of community gardens, and the repopulation of our native tree canopy. There is hope that a focus on monarch and pollinator conservation can further unify and drive these projects. As flower gardens are popular throughout the village there is a growing awareness of the wide range of ecological problems from pesticides used on our lawns, and on a more industrial scale, such as at our neighboring Country Club. Community wide education about this and the benefits of repopulating native flora can make a significant difference-- Increasing knowledge about the relation of the use native flora to the repopulation of monarch butterflies and other pollinators fundamental to the sustainability of our ecosystem.

Program and Demonstration Gardens

  • Host or support a native seed or plant sale, giveaway or swap.
  • Launch, expand, or continue an invasive species removal program that will support the re-establishment of native habitat for monarch butterflies and other pollinators.

Systems Change

  • Reduce or eliminate the use of herbicides, pesticides, or other chemicals that are harmful to monarchs and pollinators and urban wildlife.
  • Increase the percentage of native plants, shrubs and trees that must be used in city landscaping ordinances and encourage use of milkweed, where appropriate.
