Pledge Summary

The Village of Lincolnwood, Illinois is a diverse community just north of Chicago, with a population of 13,463. The Village makes a proactive effort in promoting environmental care and enhancement of the natural environment. The Village has 13 different park facilities, one of which already contains several pollinator gardens, along with information on what residents can do to help promote the health and vitality of Monarchs and other pollinators. The Village has committed to addressing these environmental concerns through the implementation of a diverse planting program, and the establishment of additional pollinator gardens. Mayor Jesal Patel has committed to saving the Monarch Butterfly and other pollinators with his signing of the Mayor's Monarch Pledge.

Communications and Convening

  • Engage with city parks and recreation, public works, sustainability, and other relevant staff to identify opportunities to revise and maintain mowing programs and milkweed / native nectar plant planting programs.
  • Issue a proclamation to raise awareness about the decline of the monarch butterfly and the species’ need for habitat. This proclamation must incorporate a focus on monarch conservation.

Program and Demonstration Gardens

  • Plant milkweed and pollinator-friendly native nectar plants along roadsides, medians, or public rights-of-way.
