City of Del Rey Oaks

Del Rey Oaks, CA

Alison Kerr

Mayor

Pledge Summary

Del Rey Oaks is a small community of 1900 residents. The city is nestled between Monterey and Seaside on a canyon that houses thriving small businesses, an engaged citizenry, and beloved wetlands. Surrounded by the beauty and diversity of our natural environment, our city is dedicated to preserving our green spaces and wildlife, including pollinators. In 2018, Mayor Kerr created a Mayor's Advisory Committee for Sustainability, which has since morphed into our only citizen-run, non-profit organization located within the city. Two years ago, with the help of the Monterey Peninsula Stormwater Management Program and Save the Whole, Sustainable Del Rey Oaks created a Butterfly Garden on a small piece of vacant city land. Working with a local Butterfly expert, the Butterfly Garden now has 6 planter boxes containing appropriate plants to nurture our visiting monarchs and other pollinators, as well as an owl box.
