Pledge Summary

West St Paul is a city in Minnesota, with a population of about 20,000. The small 5 square mile community is a first ring suburb in the Twin Cities. The City is home to many parks and natural areas, including many city parks, the Thompson County Regional Park and the Dodge Nature Center. The City's Environmental Committee, which advises the Mayor and City Council, is leading the way in promoting pollinator habitat to residents and businesses, and looks forward to further education and promotion of Monarch habitat.

Communications and Convening

  • Engage with developers, planners, landscape architects, and other community leaders and organizers engaged in planning processes to identify opportunities to create monarch habitat.
  • Issue a proclamation to raise awareness about the decline of the monarch butterfly and the species’ need for habitat. This proclamation must incorporate a focus on monarch conservation.

Program and Demonstration Gardens

  • Plant or maintain a monarch and pollinator-friendly demonstration garden at City Hall or another prominent or culturally significant community location.
