DeLand

DeLand, FL

Robert Apgar

Mayor

Pledge Summary

DeLand Fl is located in central Florida with a population just under 40,000 and DeLand was Florida's first monarch city. We have a Monarch mural in our downtown recognizing this. We are the home to Stetson University, Florida's oldest private university and we are know as the Athens of Florida. These are things we have done and plan to continue to do: • Engage with community garden groups and urge them to plant native milkweeds and nectar-producing plants. • Engage with city parks and recreation, public works and other relevant staff to identify opportunities to revise and maintain mowing programs and milkweed / native nectar plant planting programs. • Host or support a native seed or plant sale, giveaway or swap. • Plant or maintain a monarch and pollinator-friendly demonstration garden at Dreggors Park.
