City of Fargo

Fargo, ND

Dr. Timothy Mahoney

Mayor

Pledge Summary

Everywhere along its migration route, the habitat that the Monarch butterfly needs to survive is disappearing. The dilemma of the Monarch has made news in recent years, and Fargo is one of many cities across the country encouraging residents to create pollinator habitat, which in combination with agriculture production and home gardens may increase plant yields. There has also been discussion amongst many departments within the City regarding mowing schedules, using native grasses and wildflowers in place of mown turf, which reduces maintenance costs, beautifies the landscape, contributes to pollinator conservation and promotes ecofriendly sustainability.
