Pledge Summary

Pittsburg is a city in the San Francisco Bay Area with a population of roughly 75,000. The city is nestled between the Diablo Mountain Range and the Sacramento-San Joaquin Rivers Delta, contributes to the East Bay Regional Parks District area, and is home to an IPM drought tolerant demonstration garden and a few community gardens. Mayor Craft of Pittsburg, CA has committed to saving the monarch butterfly and other pollinators with he signing of the Mayors’ Monarch Pledge and looks forward to engaging residents in building more pollinator habitat throughout the city.

Communications and Convening ▸

Issue a proclamation to raise awareness about the decline of the monarch butterfly and the species’ need for habitat. This proclamation must incorporate a focus on monarch conservation.

Program and Demonstration Gardens ▸

Plant or maintain a monarch and pollinator-friendly demonstration garden at City Hall or another prominent or culturally significant community location.
Display educational signage at monarch gardens and pollinator habitat.
