Monroe Township

Williamstown, NJ

Rich DiLucia

Mayor

Pledge Summary

Williamstown is a community in Monroe Township, located in the northeast corner of Gloucester County, NJ surrounded by Cecil, Cross Keys, Downer, New Brooklyn, and Victory Lakes. Present population is approximately 36,129. Part of the township lies within the NJ Pinelands and our residents benefit from living halfway between Philadelphia and the Jersey Shore. The fall migration of the Monarch Butterfly through Cape May lies within an hour’s drive. Our community benefits from a very active group known as Sustainable Monroe Township. The group formed in 2013, in order to coordinate the Township’s certification process in the Sustainable Jersey Program. As required, the “Green Team” coordinates with our Monroe Township Schools, Residents, Businesses, Municipal Departments, and related organizations to work on sustainable actions including creating and supporting an organic community garden and pollinator gardens on public land. Current efforts are focused on the Backyard Habitat Certification Program under National Wildlife Federation and community education on the importance of pollinators and their habitats.

Program and Demonstration Gardens

  • Plant or maintain a monarch and pollinator-friendly demonstration garden at City Hall or another prominent or culturally significant community location.
  • Earn or maintain recognition for being a wildlife-friendly city by participating in other wildlife and habitat conservation efforts (i.e., National Wildlife Federation’s Community Wildlife Habitat program).
  • Add or maintain native milkweed and nectar-producing plants in gardens in the community.
