Pledge Summary

With the help of four beautiful seasons, a richly diverse population, the University of Illinois, and vibrant arts and entertainment scene, Urbana offers a variety of services, recreation, and culture. Smart, innovative, and globally connected Urbana is part of the Urbana-Champaign micro-urban community. Urbana is made up of unique neighborhoods, each with its own neighborhood school and park facilities. The City is supporting nature and urban biodiversity through green infrastructure, synthetic chemical free landscaping, and use of native, monarch and pollinator supportive, and drought tolerant plantings.

Program and Demonstration Gardens ▸

Facilitate or support a milkweed seed collection and propagation effort.
Plant or maintain a monarch and pollinator-friendly demonstration garden at City Hall or another prominent or culturally significant community location.
Add or maintain native milkweed and nectar-producing plants in gardens in the community.

Systems Change ▸

Launch, expand, or continue an effort to change municipal planting ordinances and practices to include more native milkweed and native nectar producing plants at city properties.
