City of Mountain Park

Mountain Park, GA

Charles Kolbrener

Mayor

Pledge Summary

Mountain Park is a nearly 100 year old city nestled just North of Atlanta. Mountain Park is less than a square mile with hills and lakes. Mountain Park is environmentally conscientious community with several awards to our credit. Recently we approved and adopted being a stop on the Lillian Carter Butterfly Trail. We have several citizens who are very active with the conservation of the Monarchs. This group of people are educating the community, City Hall and sub contractors with regards to plantings of native pollinators including Milkweed. These volunteers have helped gain approval for specific raised beds and boxes along the Lillian Carter Butterfly Trail as well as pockets of Milkweed and pollinators throughout our city.

  • Engage with gardening leaders and partners (e.g., Master Naturalists, Master Gardeners, Nature Centers, Native Plant Society Chapters , other long-standing and influential community leaders) to support monarch butterfly conservation.

Program and Demonstration Gardens

  • Host or support a native seed or plant sale, giveaway or swap.
  • Facilitate or support a milkweed seed collection and propagation effort.
  • Plant or maintain a monarch and pollinator-friendly demonstration garden at City Hall or another prominent or culturally significant community location.
  • Plant milkweed and pollinator-friendly native nectar plants along roadsides, medians, or public rights-of-way.
  • Earn or maintain recognition for being a wildlife-friendly city by participating in other wildlife and habitat conservation efforts (i.e., National Wildlife Federation’s Community Wildlife Habitat program).
  • Add or maintain native milkweed and nectar-producing plants in gardens in the community.
