Deerfield, Illinois is a vibrant suburban community located about 25 miles north of downtown Chicago. With a population of just under 20,000 residents, Deerfield is home to over five acres of recently restored native gardens— adding to the Village’s natural beauty, sustainability, and commitment to environmental stewardship. Mayor Shapiro has affirmed the Village’s dedication to protecting pollinators by signing the Mayors' Monarch Pledge and looks forward to engaging residents in creating more pollinator habitats throughout our thriving community.

Interactive Native Planting Locations Map

Deerfield created an interactive map using GIS to show the native planting locations throughout the Village. Currently, four acres of turf have been converted to native gardens with an additional five acres planned for 2023.

Program and Demonstration Gardens ▸

Host or support a native seed or plant sale, giveaway or swap.
Add or maintain native milkweed and nectar-producing plants in gardens in the community.
Launch, expand, or continue an invasive species removal program that will support the re-establishment of native habitat for monarch butterflies and other pollinators.
