Pledge Summary

The City of Hoboken is a mile square municipality in northern New Jersey with a population of approximately 60,000 residents. Located directly across the Hudson River from New York City, Hoboken is home to 35 parks encompassing more than 53 acres of open space, as well as two community gardens. Mayor Emily B. Jabbour has demonstrated the City of Hoboken’s commitment to environmental stewardship with plans to expand public open space by approximately 6.5 acres in the coming years and by signing the Mayors’ Monarch Pledge, affirming her dedication to protecting the monarch butterfly and other important pollinators. The City looks forward to continuing its efforts to expand and enhance pollinator habitats throughout Hoboken.

  • Issue a proclamation to raise awareness about the decline of the monarch butterfly and the species’ need for habitat. This proclamation must incorporate a focus on monarch conservation.
  • Engage with community garden groups and urge them to plant native milkweeds and nectar-producing plants.

  • Display educational signage at monarch gardens and pollinator habitat.
