Pledge Summary

Adel is the county seat of Dallas County in the state of Iowa. It was established in 1847 and has grown over the years to a population of roughly 6,500. The Raccoon River Valley Trail runs through Adel and has a large forested area surrounding the trail that is home to many flora and fauna. Adel has beautiful parks, including the large city-centered Evans Park, that have natural habitats for the monarch butterfly community. There are multiple community gardens throughout Adel, including one outside the Adel Library that the Friends of the Library are dedicated to building a habitat for the monarch community. Mayor Peters joins the Friends of the Library and the citizens of Adel in a pledge to encourage growth and rehabilitation of the monarch community in the City of Adel.

  • Issue a proclamation to raise awareness about the decline of the monarch butterfly and the species’ need for habitat. This proclamation must incorporate a focus on monarch conservation.
  • Engage with community garden groups and urge them to plant native milkweeds and nectar-producing plants.

  • Add or maintain native milkweed and nectar-producing plants in gardens in the community.
